There is no lunch quite as satisfying as a lunch from Club Sandwich. A nice smoked turkey on a Portuguese roll, with tomatoes, hot peppers, and BBQ sauce. With Salt 'N Vinegar Cape Cod chips on the side... very nice. Going to Great Adventure tomorrow... that should prove fun. Haven't been in a few years, so I'm looking forward to it. And Nitro!

Well well well... I was checking out Interactions with WRRV today and realized that Obsessive Rob knows Jeff & Heather! Small world... a global society one might say... (but not me!).

Ok, ok... I give up. I have a feeling that we are talking about two completely different issues, and that we're approaching them with completely different POVs. So- truce?

In other news, I finally got my hair cut. I'll be posting the befores and afters on my website soon. I cut off 13 inches!! I'm sending it to Locks of Love, so that they can turn it into a wig for a child with cancer.

That's not exactly globalization though, Chris. A global society has nothing to do with politics. And I know that there is the argument that if the people are against it, than it's government is as well- but that is simply not the case. It is one thing for the sentiment of the people to be with us, and it is another for the governments to offer it. I will use your example- the world did think we came down too hard on Iraq, and in Bosnia, and in Kosovo... that's why there was a meeting of the EU last week. They saw the almighty US gearing up, and needed to discuss the possibility of us "going too far" once again. They feared that our strike (or strikes) would be impulsive and poorly planned/executed. The governments of the world aren't completely with us- as much as they claim the opposite. Jacques Chiraq couldn't even put into words what kind of support the French are willing to offer, just that they do support us... currently. But, that said, look at the support lavished on us from our brothers and sisters around the world. The Brits played The Star-Spangled Banner during The Changing of the Guard, by order of Queen Elizabeth. All of Europe stopped in their tracks at noon last Friday to honor us with three minutes of silence. The images are incredible. Busy Italian streets, packed with cars- all stopped as they thought of us and of those we lost. The French, the Germans, the Dutch, the Chinese... the list goes on and on. Queen Elizabeth cried (cried!) for us during a service at St. Paul's. That is unity. That is a strong show of support. That is a global society...

My thought of the day (and it was part of an email I sent out, so please excuse the personal nature of it):

Wow, Tom. Well spoken. Good to finally hear from you. As far as patriotism goes, I agree. It is one thing to show pride in your country, and another to take it too far. I, for one, have a flag on my car. I have it there to show unity. I have NEVER (and when I say never, I mean never) felt any sort of patriotism in my life. I have never flown a US flag, never saluted one, and never felt any sort of national pride... and now that we have been attacked for who we are, it makes me realize that there are people out there who cannot enjoy the freedoms that I have taken for granted all my life. And that is why I put a flag on my car. Now- that being said, I absolutely agree that this patriotism thing can be carried too far. We all must remember that one of the things that makes this country so great is that we have diversity within our unity. Being American means celebrating that what makes us different from each other is what holds us all together. It disgusts me that there are morons in the country who think that being patriotic entails beating up people who are different than they. It outrages me more than the terrorist attack itself. Absolutely disgusting. It is a responsibility that we all have to ensure that all citizens, and those living peacefully in our country MUST be treated with the same respect and courtesy that we ourselves expect as Americans. And believe me, I know what it is like to have people treat you differently because of your chosen faith... although thankfully, not to the extent that the poor Arab-Americans are facing now. My heart goes out to anyone who is or even remotely looks Arabic right now. (And remember, guys, that part of our responsibility is to look after those who need our protection.) Ok, that's about all I have to say right now...

On the other hand, I would like to say that I would love to blow the Taliban to next century- having watched a disgusting (but very informative) piece on the Taliban and their effects on Afghanistan and the Afghani people. It showed a very emotional video featuring the football stadium, built to give the people some fun and entertainment, which is actually used as a public execution venue. Anyway, the video detailed an execution of a woman- wearing full veil (so she couldn't see anything that was happening) being walked out to the center of the field, forced to get on her knees and then unceremoniously shot in the head with a rifle. It gave me a new understanding of the evil over there- but I still would caution any sort of military "take-down" of sorts. It is a precarious perch that we are on right now, and it is better to take longer and be more thought-out than just go crazy and lose our world support. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the latter will not happen.

Blessed Be America

Words and Music by Christopher J. Schulze

Blessed Be, America, land that I call home.
I’ll always hold her in my heart, no matter where I roam.
We are all brothers and sisters; Red, White, Yellow and Brown.
We’ll stand tall through the battle in this kin hood that we’ve found.
It’s time to set the standard so that the world may learn
You can’t take away the pride of one in whom the home fires burn.
So I’ll walk tall with you, my friend, moving forward, hand in hand.
We can conquer all that comes our way if we stop and take a stand.
We must care for Earth, our Mother. She provides most ev’rything.
Whether man, woman or animal, riding water, land or wing.
No matter what you call your God, We have nearly the same needs.
In the garden of the afterlife, We are merely seeds.
Growing in different soils, taking warmth from Father Sun.
We look above for guidance till our time down here is done.
So be a little kinder And always have a smile.
Share the love that’s in your heart for I know in awhile
We’ll begin to grow together as one people, day by day
To show the world we won’t let others keep us from our way.
So, now’s the time to gather in peace and unity.
I’m glad I’m an American… America, Blessed Be!

This is exactly to what I was referring. We are truly becoming a global society...

To donate to the American Red Cross via Amazon.com: Click here. I'm amazed at the totals. I'm also very much astounded by the world-wide reaction. As an American, I am truly touched by the outpouring of emotion and sympathy.

I'm sending positive energy to those who have suffered losses in the wake of this tragedy, and to those who are helping in the rescue effort, including my uncle and cousin. Those who have not been able to donate blood: wait. There will be a need for more blood in a few weeks, to replenish the current blood supply. Feeling helpless? Ten things Americans can do to help. God and Goddess Bless America

Duquette is a bloody wanker! I'm going to start a collection to buy the Sox, so we can get him the hell away from any sort of position of authority! Anyone in? Collected so far: $.12... For those who may be interested, this is a good article about the whole damn situation. Cheers...
