Like I said... GO D-BACKS!!! There was nothing like coming out of the BEST U2 concert EVER and hearing that Arizona had beat the Yanks 4-0!! I say the best U2 concert ever like I've been to a few. I haven't. But that didn't change the fact that it was a kick-ass concert! Dave and I were 20 ft from Bono and The Edge!!! Let me repeat it, cause I still can't believe it... 20 ft from Bono and The Edge! It was a really great show, and I had a really great time. Woo!! And like I keep saying- GO D-BACKS!

GO D-BACKS!!

Well, here we are once again...Alumni Weekend. That time once a year when we celebrate our alma mater, get in touch with old friends, and party til our eyes bleed. And once again, Dave and I play host to a myriad of friends, because we were the only ones with the forethought to live within firing range of the college. I mean, if we hadn't had the decency to stay close to our school, where would our friends stay? In hotels? And pay out the ying yang for rooms? I wouldn't dream of it. *smirk* In all sincerity, however, I enjoy playing hostess every year when our friends come up (or down- it would be down from Mars, right?). Often, it's the one time of year when we see certain people, and I relish it. I wonder what will happen when Dave and I decide to finally pick up our roots and move? Maybe I should make our reservations now, before the hotels get booked up...

What a great time for the news media... normally MSNBC and CNN (the major 24 hour news channels) are scrounging for things to talk about to cover the time. Now, they don't seem to have enough time to talk about everything. Today, for instance, they have the anthrax cases (2 more infections today- 6 total, with however many exposure cases we're up to now), the Senate remaining open while the House closes down for 5 days (someone figure that one out for me!), the continuing airstrikes (now looking to last another month), the APEC economic conference in Shanghai, the 4 life sentences for the embassy bombings, the Israeli Tourism Minister assassination (and whatever more that will lead to), the roller coaster stock market (GM posted a $3.6+ million loss today)...and much much more. Not only do they have enough news to talk about, they have become news themselves, with NBC, ABC, and CBS all becoming anthrax targets. Looks like Christmas done come early for the news media...

This is from an email I received in regards to Samhain (the New Year) and the September 11 attacks. It was lengthy, so I omitted most of the beginning. Anyone who would like the complete forward, please email me. Goddess Bless
[...We know that physically, they achieved many of their goals -- the World Trade Center was destroyed. I believe that they succeeded magically as well.
This immense blood sacrifice, this outpouring of evil and death, has opened a gate, and negative energies have poured through that gate. Forces that you might call "demonic" have been drawn to us. They must be sent back!
On Samhain, CLOSE THE GATES. Show the energies of negativity and destruction OUT. They have overstayed their welcome, we don't want them! On Samhain, when the gates are meant to be opened, it's the perfect opportunity to complete the Samhain ritual by closing the door afterwards, first making sure that "The Outsiders", the beings of pain, anguish, terror and blood are absolutely clear that they MUST go through, back to the other side.
Brightest blessings for the New Year,]

Wow. So- I guess this doesn't really strike you until you actually see it, face to face. I had heard, of course, of the stepped up security at airports. National Guard troops in uniform, more police, security checkpoints and all that. But- nothing compares to actually witnessing it. I dropped a friend off at the airport today. It's just a small county airport- nothing big. There was a security checkpoint at the entrance- which held up traffic for about 20 minutes. When I got to the front of the line, there were several police there checking the IDs of everyone in the car and checking the contents of the car and trunk. Once I passed through that, there were military personnel everywhere. I couldn't identify them as a certain branch, but I assume they were National Guard. They were walking around with M-16 rifles. I have never seen anything like this. Unreal.

It has been one month... and it doesn't seem it. It seems longer. It seems shorter. But it doesn't seem to have been one month. Why is that? Because we seem to have gone through so much in that month? Because in that one short (and long) month, our world has changed so much? Because a month and a day ago, we hadn't paid much attention to where in the world Jalalabad, Kandahar, and Kabul were? Now we know all too well... One month and one day ago, we took the Twin Towers, and the Manhattan skyline, for granted... One month and one day ago, we knew The Pentagon was indestructible... One month and one day ago, we knew America was safe...

I have decided that an ideal part-time job for me would be mini-corn grower... just where do they grow these things? I was having this discussion earlier today with some co-workers. Where do they grow mini-corn, and how can I become a part of it? I could set up a little mini field on my desk and grow them. Then, when they were ready for harvesting, I could pick and shuck them with tweezers...

from an email I received... I agree with the sentiment, if not the actual words... it's great to be patriotic in times of crisis- and this crisis has definitely helped to spark new patriotism (which is great!)- but patriotism also includes being aware of our system of government and participating in it all the time, not just in times of crisis.
TEN PROPOSED NEW LAWS FOR THIS CRISIS:

> have voted at least once in the last three elections
> (yes, local and state elections count).
>
> 2. To display an American flag in any form, you must
> present proof of voter registration.
>
> 3. To wave an American flag in public, you must be
> able to name at least one of the following:
> A. Your Senator
> B. Your Representative
> C. Your President ("George Bush" does not count;
> ambiguous)
>
> 4. To sell any product with an American flag on it,
> you must answer the following question:
> The Bill of Rights is part of:
> a. the Constitution;
> b. the Magna Carta;
> c. the Declaration of Independence.
>
> 5. Those heard singing patriotic songs in public may
> be asked to show their voter registration cards.
>
> 6. To be permitted to scream "Nuke Afghanistan," you
> must be able to correctly locate Afghanistan on a map
> or globe.
>
> 7. To be permitted to scream "Arabs go home," you must
> list and correctly locate ten Arab homelands.
>
> 8. Those who wish to express opinions about Arabs and

> called:

> b. Allah
> c. Jehovah
>
> 9. Priority for purchase of American flags will be
> given to those whose ancestors lived on American soil
> the longest. When all American Indians who wish to
> display the red, white and blue are satisfied, other
> applicants will be accepted.
>
> 10. A call for war on any radio talk-show will be
> construed as a public declaration of willingness to
> enlist in the US Army; callers will have 24 hours to
> complete the paperwork.

9:35:00 PM
And a very happy (and communist) birthday to the pink birthday cake... uh... I mean Chris!
3:30:00 PM
Well... I may be a godless communist buddhist barbaric (and oh so generous!) pagan, but at least I have U2 tickets!! Boogie oogie oogie. In other news: Great Adventure rocked and rocked and then rocked even more!! We went on Nitro 6 times... 4 of them in a row. Our first ride was in the first car, which I would highly recommend. One of the trips was in the last car, which again I would highly recommend, but not as your first trip! We also did Medusa, Batman, and the Great American Scream Machine (which I did twice- Dave did 4 times in a row- I wanted to see the pictures!!). So this outing was much better than the last, when I did not do any roller coaster except the Great American Scream Machine. The determination to not do coasters was not made by me and man did that suck. But- this time was great! We were there from noon (right when it opened) to about 11:20pm (it closed at 11pm). Wow. I will be posting our pics sometime in the nearish future. And did I mention... I HAVE U2 TICKETS!!!
